**2. The Structure and Timing of Night Prayer**

The ulama assert that Salat al-Lail is comprised of two rak‘ahs, which may be recited in sets, culminating in a heartfelt supplication known as **Dua al-Jawshan al-Kabir**. Traditionally, this prayer is preferably observed after the Isha (night) prayer, often performed in the latter part of the night. The significance of its timing resonates with an ancient metaphor: just as the dawn dispels darkness, the night prayer illuminates the path of the faithful towards divine guidance.

This structure, while simple in its form, bears a profound significance. Each rak‘ah is an opportunity for spiritual introspection; a canvas upon which the believer may paint their sorrows, aspirations, and hopes.
